Nitrous Oxide sedation, sometimes called Laughing Gas, is a dental sedative often used for patients before and during a dental procedure such as tooth extraction or root canal. Nitrous Oxide is often used for children so they are calmer during the dental visit.
Nitrous sedation is especially useful for patients who are anxious or nervous to make them feel more comfortable and relaxed. The dentist places a mask on your nose and asks you to breathe through your nose until you feel more relaxed. This sedation makes you feel lightheaded and calm while still allowing you to be awake and respond to the dentist if needed. If you are nervous about a procedure, ask your dentist about nitrous oxide sedation.
