For those who are missing one or more teeth, but still have viable teeth on either side, a bridge can be used. It may be made of many different types of materials, such as alloy, porcelain, gold, or composite resin. The bridge is also called a fixed partial denture, because it replaces teeth like dentures do, but it is attached to the natural teeth on one or both sides, and it is not removable like partial dentures are.
The dentist makes a porcelain or resin crown to cover the viable teeth on one or both sides of the missing tooth with a porcelain tooth in between. The bridge is bonded onto a metal frame, which is attached to your existing teeth.
